Summy - Privacy Policy

Summy ("Summy - Novel Chapter Summarizer" on the Chrome Web Store) is a Chrome extension that extracts the chapter you are reading on a supported web-novel site and generates an AI summary of it. This policy describes what data the extension and its backend service handle, and why.

Data we collect

• Google account information. When you sign in with Google we receive and store your email address, display name, and profile picture. This is used only to identify your account.
• Chapter text. When you request a summary, the text of the chapter you are reading is sent to our server and forwarded to an AI provider to generate the summary. The chapter text itself is processed to produce your summary and is not stored in our database.
• Request metadata. For each summary request we store the chapter and novel title, the length of the text, a timestamp, and your IP address. This is used for rate limiting and abuse prevention and is deleted after 90 days.
• Session tokens. Signing in creates a session token that expires after 7 days of inactivity and at most 30 days after sign-in.
• Diagnostic output. Intermediate output produced by the AI model while generating summaries may be retained in server-side logs for quality debugging. It is never shown to other users.

Third parties

• Google - used only to authenticate your sign-in.
• OpenRouter - the AI provider that processes chapter text to generate summaries, subject to its own privacy policy.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or share your data with anyone beyond the providers above.
• We do not show ads or use trackers.
• The extension only reads the page when you click Summarize or Copy - it does not monitor your browsing.

Data deletion

To delete your account and associated data, email the address below from your signed-in Google address. Request metadata also expires automatically after 90 days, and sessions expire on their own schedule.
